From Environmental Monitoring to Defense Intelligence: Scidrones Presents etikέta at DEFEA 2025

Scidrones proudly participated in the spin-off pitching session at DEFEA 2025, the premier defense and security event in Southeast Europe. Representing academic innovation in dual-use technologies, we presented our transition from environmental monitoring with CMLO to advanced geospatial AI training with our new platform: etikέta.

etikέta is an AI training support system designed to manage the full cycle of image annotation, model training, and evaluation—tailored for optionally georeferenced datasets. It supports high-accuracy object detection and segmentation workflows and is already being used to generate labeled military datasets for imagery intelligence (IMINT) and geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) purposes.

Key features of etikέta include:

  • 📍 Support for geospatial context in labeling

  • 🧠 Inference and feedback loop for model refinement

  • 🤝 Multi-user project collaboration tools

  • 📦 Export in YOLO format for seamless ML integration

Originally created to support our environmental missions via drone-based marine litter detection (CMLO), etikέta demonstrates the flexibility of AI to serve both civil and defense applications — a true dual-use success story.

We would like to warmly thank Commander Iasonas Dimou and the team at ΕΛΚΑΚ – HCDI for the opportunity to participate, present our work, and engage with key actors in the Greek defense innovation ecosystem.
