Scidrones at the Hellenic Parliament: Embracing Innovation in Marine Environmental Protection

On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, Scidrones had the honor of participating in a pivotal meeting of the Subcommittee on Water Resources of the Special Standing Committee on Environmental Protection of the Hellenic Parliament, held at the “President Dimitrios G. Papaspyrou” Hall.

The session addressed key issues of both international and national importance, including:

  • The outcomes of the 10th Our Ocean Conference

  • The ratification process of the BBNJ Agreement under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, focused on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction

  • The role of innovation in driving the Blue Economy

Among the distinguished speakers was Professor Konstantinos Topouzelis, CEO of SciDrones, who emphasized the critical role of technological innovation and scientific collaboration in safeguarding marine ecosystems.

Scidrones showcased its flagship platform, the Coastal Marine Litter Observatory (CMLO)—a powerful digital tool that uses drones and artificial intelligence to detect, map, and monitor marine litter in coastal zones. CMLO empowers decision-makers and coastal stakeholders with accurate, scalable, and science-based data for sustainable marine resource management.

Our participation underscores SciDrones’ deep commitment to ocean protection, innovation, and policy engagement, reinforcing the need for collaborative action to address marine environmental challenges.
